Horton family 2012 - web

By God’s grace, I grew up in a home with Christian parents who pointed me towards Christ. The first time I remember hearing of how my sin caused God to be at war with me, I understood my guilt and repented. It truly is a blessing that God’s grace saved me young, and is just a reminder to me that it is only by grace through faith that we are saved, and even that is a gift.

When I was a freshman in high school I made up my mind that for me, obedience to the Great Commission was serving God on a foreign mission field. For the next 15 years I whole-heartedly sought after that goal. In college I studied engineering hoping it would someday benefit my ministry overseas. Then, God led me to The Master’s Seminary to be equipped for ministry. While at seminary I fell in love with my beautiful wife Amy, I knew she was the perfect partner for a lifetime of overseas ministry. We even named our children with our future ministry field in mind. By October of 2010, our bags were packed, our funds were raised, and our hearts were ready for a lifetime of missions work. Then, by God’s grace and in His wisdom, our opportunity for overseas service was eliminated. God holds the heart of kings in His hand, and chose to keep us in the states for His glory. At first the change was un-imaginable, but in reality, God had been working on our hearts.

Amy and I love the church, and had been planning on loving and serving her in Lebanon. God sovereignly placed us in Hutchinson to love and serve her here. What a blessing to know we are where God wants us to be, doing what God wants us to do! We have loved our time with Grace Bible Church and look forward each week to our time in worship and fellowship with her. It is humbling for me to be able to work with such a godly group of men who care so deeply for the glory of Christ and the purity of His bride in a church committed to simply being faithful to what God has called her to do. It is my prayer that God would use His Word to keep us pointed at His glory as we serve our Savior by proclaiming His precious message.
